THE FREEDOM THAT SETS US FREE
INTRO: True freedom begins with a union with Christ. The things of this world will never bring the satisfaction or freedom that Jesus brings to those who are in Him. Spiritual freedom is not a license to sin, or to do whatever we want, but to do what we should out of a love for Jesus.
I. The freedom that comes from Christ is a freedom from condemnation.
A. It is not because of something you did, it is because of what the Lord has done for you.
II. The freedom that comes from Christ is a freedom from the slavery of sin.
A. Be careful of the slavery of sin; the enemy seeks to influence you.
B. When we go back to our sinful ways, we go back to being bound.
C. Let God search you and tell you where your heart is at today.
III. The freedom that comes from Christ is a freedom from the dominion of Satan.
A. Live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the lusts of the flesh.
1. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22).
CONCLUSION: In Galatians 5, the Apostle Paul tells those who are free in Christ to “stand firm then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” When Christ lives in us, we are sons and daughters of God and are no longer slaves to our old nature. We are to live a new life in Christ operating out of the law of love for God and others. I pray that we continue to walk in love, to offer to others the love and forgiveness that God has so freely given us.
